If we were to choose one word describing what Rollerblade is, the choice would be simple – “quality”. The brand is one of foundation stones of inline skating and greatly contributed to expansion of the sport in 90’s. Even though Rollerblade roots are American, they have merged with Italian company Tecnica at the beginning of XII century. Nowadays, not everyone know that Tecnica has been making a very good skates themselves. Among these skates was Tecnica Twister, a skate which was considered to be the best freeskate on the market for years.

Rollerblade saw the potential in Twister and decided to not only continue production after a merge, but to develop and upgrade it further. Thus, the venerable old Twister, a grandfather of current hardboot freeskates, clocked almost 25 years on the market. It is a long time by technology standards and the age started to show, when compared to competition offering. Without a shadow of doubt, the frame mounting was one area in need of improvement. Rollerblade decided to make a whole new skate from scratch, instead of doing another rework of existing model. This is how Twister Edge was born.

What clearly separates Twister Edge from other freeskating hardboots is style. Sharp and clean lines of the shell give skate a “stealth” look. The boot is made out of durable and rigid polymer composite, as Rollerblade wanted to maximize energy transfer. This is enhanced further by Anti Torsion Box, a square-shaped hole in the bottom which is reinforced on edges to make underside of the boot more rigid. It also serves a role in ventilation, allowing for better air flow. The frame and boot connection is reinforced by aluminum plates. All of this completely eliminates problems with “soft”  underside of the shell which plagued later versions of original Twister. The new model offers excellent control, responsiveness and energy transfer, providing a completely new level of quality in these areas.

Inside of the shell resides anatomically shaped High Performance liner, equipped with AirFlow insole. The liner wraps around the foot and the ankle, working with shell lacing and buckles to provide excellent, secure fit without any heel lift. Underneath the heel is a shock-absorber, which lessens impacts on landings. The skates come with replaceable sliders which protect the shell fro wear on the sides.

The frame is modeled after classic Hot Rod frame known from original Twister, but is more rigid. Rollerblade offers an unique, very sensible approach to frame length – the skates in sizes up to EU44 have 243mm length, while bigger sizes come with 255mm one. Both fit four 80mm wheels and are of the same height. Thanks to it, the skaters with bigger feet can enjoy added stability (as 243mm frame is often too short for them) without sacrificing low center of gravity provided by 80mm wheels. The wheels used in Twister Edge are Rollerblade Supreme of 85A hardness. These are good medium-tier wheels characterized by decent durability and moderate wear. Twincam ILQ-7 Pus bearing provide good roll and can withstand a lot of abuse. As usual, Rollerblade adds brake in the box, which will come in handy for those who are learning how to skate.

Twister Edge mark a beginning of a new era in Rollerblade collection – they are modern skates built for performance, durability and comfort, without compromises. Their characteristics make them going toe to toe with best of other brands hardboots. If you are looking for freeskates with unique style and value quality – Twister Edge are for you!

About manufacturer

Other products of this producer Rollerblade

Rollerblade are industry’s veterans and one of the most important brands in inline skating history. The company was founded in year 1982 by Brennan Olson and Scott Olson, in Minnesota. Since then, Rollerblade underwent several acquisitions and finally became a part of Tecnica Group, a corporation which gathers several well-known and highly valued sport brands under its umbrella.

Contrary to popular belief, Rollerblade was not the first company to mass-manufacture inline skates. However, they were the first company to sell them worldwide and invest heavily in promotion of the rising sport. A testament of their success is the fact that we now use “rollerblading”, a word derived from company’s name, as a synonym to inline skating. Inline skates themselves are often called “rollerblades” or in shortened form, “blades”.

In this day and age, Rollerblade stands for quality. They are not the most innovative of the brands, their catalogue is not as expansive as some others, but without a shadow of doubt – a product with Rollerblade logo on it, is a quality one - from the simplest recreational skates to high end speedskating boots. Company’s approach can be described as steady evolution rather than revolution – this may not appeal to some customers, but guarantees that RB’s skates are always a safe bet. It’s worth remembering that Rollerblade do have resources to give us a surprise from time to time – being in one family with winter sports giants like Nordica, Tecnica and Blizzard Sports gives them an opportunity for technology transfer.

Even though Rollerblade prefers quality over quantity, they offer skates for almost every style: from kid’s skates, through recreational, fitness, speed and aggressive to urban skates. The only area where their catalogue is lacking is freestyle slalom; Rollerblade, to this day, has not created a model dedicated for this type of activity, even though their older urban skate, Twister, was a very popular choice among beginners and intermediate slalom enthusiasts at the beginning of the century.

Rollerblade have always worked with skaters and attracted best of them. There was a time when their aggressive inline skating team was unmatched – the very first pro skate of one of most talented and highest regarded skaters in history, Alexander Broskow, was made by Rollerblade. They were the first company to release a pro-model of an urban skate with Fusion 84 Greg Mirzoyan. It’s worth mentioning names like Ben Brillante, Sven Boekhorst, Robert Guerrero, Vincent Vuvankha and Danny Alridge – all skate or skated for Rollerblade. Moreover, the company is trying to make ambassadors of skating out of people who practice other sports – we can mention a loose cooperation with skiing superstar, Sierra Quitiquit. The company also tries to appeal to skiing audience in particular by their campaign and training program called “Skate to ski”.
