Famus inline skating wheels

Famus inline skating wheels

Famus wheels are created by Vincent Isaac, French action sports enthusiast and inline skater. He is the man behind ALK13 brand of helmets and protection gear. Famus have entered the aggressive inline market offering something which was previously done only in experimental manner in speedskating  - wheels with metal cores. Over time, catalogue has been expanded to sizes used in freeskating and even to quad skating wheels!

Famus inline skating wheels - a fresh take on the subject.

These metal cores are Famus trademark. The brand constantly refines their products, which is reflected by pursuit of higher quality. First batches of wheels had different core material alloy, which resulted in (rare, but still) cases of cores bending on landings. Current version of wheels uses chromoly steel alloy, which is more resistant, rigid, harder and lighter.

Okay, but why make the core out of metal in the first place? Because it does not flex like composite one. It’s more firmly joined with bearings, too. This gives an excellent roll and makes skating fast and fluid. This effect is greatly enhanced if we put these wheels in aluminium frames.

Such frames are standard in freeskates, but in aggressive inline, most popular frames are composite. However, quite a few models of aluminium frames worth recommendation exist: Kizer Element II, Sola Equipment Street, Ground Control HD, FLAT and new Kizer Soulframes. Aluminium cores and aluminium frames combo gives you direct feel of every move and laser-tight precision you’ve never felt before. In this case, riding is believing.

Imitation is the highest for of praise, they say – know that the biggest aggressive and freeskating wheels brand, Undercover, has picked up the idea of metal core and created their own UC Apex aggressive wheels.

Of course, using these wheels with composite aggressive frames still makes a lot of sense – however, their unique benefits will be less pronounced while skating. On the flip side, a plastic composite frame will help with dispersing energy on landings, making them easier on your body if you are doing high jumps. Seeing how rigid metal cores are, it is to be expected that they won’t dampen the shock as much as composite ones.

Find a wheel for yourself.

Famus wheels come in following sizes: 60 mm, 64 mm, 72 mm, 80 mm and even 90 mm. As you can see, there’s something for both aggressive and urban skaters on offer. 90 mm wheel is also a treat for wizard-like frames owners too!

Anodised cores give the wheels a nice, colourful touch. Their surface have a smooth, slightly dispersed gloss look to it. This will make your skates looking truly outstanding.

Last thing worth to note is business side of things. Famus is run by veterans of aggressive inline skating, people who are active on blading scene for decades now, who skate themselves and try to push the sport forward. By choosing Famus wheels, you are supporting them and in a way, sending them thanks for their contribution to our favourite hobby and for some of us, easily a lifestyle. In addition, the brands often does collaborations with talented skaters, releasing signature wheels. Of course, these people receive a profit cut from each sale.

Is there a need to say anything else? Famus wheels are available in our shop. Go get them.
