Oysius OY3X Caleb Smith Pro - Black Inline Skate Frames

Caleb Smith name won’t sound familiar to people who are not involved in aggressive inline skating bubble. Furthermore, try to Google the guy and most likely you’ll end up with information and videos about ...skateboarder with the same name and surname.

“Our” Caleb is a prime example of a very talented aggressive skater who re-discovered joy of simply rolling around on big wheels. In the past four years, he skated thousands of kilometres across USA, both in marathons and during skate trips when he went for ultra long distances. This brought him quite a lot of fame, he has started to work as skating instructor and even ...food delivery man on skates. His trips were sponsored by Rollerblade, but after a while he has switched sponsors and joined ranks of FR Skates riders.

There’s no hiding the fact that his fans are mostly aggressive inline skaters. We suspect that it was a tough decision for which frame mounting standard to go while designing his OY3X Clementine pro-model frame. The most obvious thing to do would be going for 165 or 195 mm mount spacings with raised heel (or, less likely, Trinity mounting). On the other hand – people willing to buy his pro frames most likely have UFS boots and not necessarily skates with other frame mounting standards.

In the end, they have opted for hybrid approach – the frame is UFS natively, but also compatible with 165 mm mounting thanks to additional block filling the space underneath the heel. Of course, all parts, including longer bolts, are included in the package. Frame designers have found a way to give some room for adjustment front to back, making sure you can centre the frame properly under the boot.

The OY3X Clementine frame is also versatile in terms of wheel setups you can use it with, as there are three options:

• 3x100 mm, 247 mm wheelbase (agile, low setup – perfect for urban skating)
• 3x110 mm, 283 mm wheelbase (more stable, but still reasonably manoeuvrable setup – golden mean between acceleration, speed and weight)
• 3x125 mm, 283 mm wheelbase (the best choice for long distance skating)

The 283 mm spacing have microrockering, a very gentle rise of the front wheel in relation to other two, which makes frames a bit more agile but doesn’t impact stability in any negative way.

In case of 165 mm mounting, raised heel boots, you need to use adapter blocks, one per each frame.

If you want to use these frames with UFS boots, 3x100 mm and 3x110 mm setups are compatible natively, but you need to use adapter blocks (two per each frame) to create more space for wheels in case of 3x125 mm setup.
