Rollerskates – the very first widepsread type of “shoes on wheels”. Even though inline skates were invented way earlier, the rollerskates were first to take over the world. Eventually, the fates have turned and nowadays, inline skates dominate the market – nonetheless, their quad relatives still have a lot of fans. Why?

First of all, the sensation of rolling on both skate types is very different. Turning on quad skated have more “analogue” feel thanks to trucks with pivot mechanism, which smoothly transfer movements of feet. Skating on quads in bowl or on vert feels more natural than on inline skates, where wheels are placed in rigid frame. Thanks to stability to the sides, the quad skating boots can be low cut below the ankle, giving a greater degree of movement. This is a double-edged sword, though, as rollerskates are slower than their inline counterparts, having shorter wheelbase for push as well as wider wheels. Still, they easily beat inlines in dance and roller derby, where wide wheels with plenty of grip come in handy.
