FR Spin 2023 - Black inline skates for freestyle slalom
The FR Spin 2023 - Black is a solid mid-range freeskate/slalom inline skate that has gained a lot of fans - thanks to its affordable price, for which you get a skating experience similar to that of much more expensive models. The FR Spin boots have an integrated liner, as you would expect in the freestyle slalom skate category. It has been made to best fit the user's anatomy, literally immobilizing the foot inside. When these skates are correctly tied and fastened, you get a degree of control and precision of motion transference in no way inferior to more expensive models. There is an insole under the foot that gives support to the arch of the foot, making the ride more comfortable and the translation of push-off energy to the wheels more efficient.
The boot is lined with robust material and the fastest wear points, i.e. the sides (outside) and toe tip, are additionally protected with abrasion-resistant plastic covers. As a result, the skates will last a long time not only in the freestyle slalom discipline, but also for slide or urban/freeskating.
A significant difference that sets the Spin apart from the rest of FR Skates' slalom skates is the carbon fibre and glass fibre shell. This makes it heavier than counterparts made from pure carbon, but as a whole the skates are still very light and the stiffness of the boot is also maintained. The glass fibre, on the other hand, reduces production costs, which translates into a more attractive skate price.
Features of FR Spin 2023 - Black inline skates for freestyle slalom
- Closure and fastenings - a buckle with a receptor on the upper, a ‘pump’ to tighten the heel, as well as a Velcro at the toe to improve forefoot hold. The foot is perfectly immobilized in the boot.
- Low shell - greater freedom of movement above the ankle especially for speed slalom skaters.
- Plastic cuff - provides optimum lateral support. Works great in the front-to-back axis, making it easier to perform tricks on one wheel.
- Frames - R2-R model with built-in extreme axis rocker capability - you can set up a ‘banana’ for slalom or have all wheels on one level for improved stability
- Wheels - FR Downtown with a hardness of 85A. These are very good wheels for take-off, and they roll perfectly with Twincam MW9 Titalium Freeride bearings. Depending on the frame length you get either 76mm or 80mm wheels.
FR Spin 2023 - Black inline skates for freestyle slalom - worth knowing!
Depending on your boot size, you get either 231mm (EU35 to EU40) or 243mm (EU41 to EU45) frames, making these skates even more attractive to those with smaller feet. The frame uses a standard 165mm mounting and the boot is compatible with most frame options.
Veterans of the sport will probably feel that it is slightly lower than most models of this type - not everyone may like this, but many people, especially speed slalom skaters, will probably appreciate the greater freedom of movement above the ankle. This is also good news for people who buy these skates for freeskating - you can ‘fold down’ quite low on these skates, allowing for a deeper push off and a more dynamic ride.
The FR Spin 80 skates are recommended especially for intermediate freestyle slalom skaters and those who are looking for their first skates of this type and do not want to spend a not inconsiderable amount of money on high-end models. Freeskaters should also seriously consider buying them if you are looking for a lightweight, highly controllable boot for urban skating.
About manufacturer
FR Skates is second brand created by freestyle slalom legend, Sebastien Laffargue. It branched off from Seba in second half of year 2016 and includes mostly the freeskating range of skates taken from the predecessor, namely the FR line of skates. However, Sebastien has decided to take some of high-end freestyle slalom skates under new brand, like the highly regarded Igor for example. Thus, FR Skates have become a flagship brand of its creator and can be considered an aggregation of best products and ideas released under Seba label up to year 2016. It doesn’t mean that lower price offerings haven’t made the cut – the extremely popular entry level FRX are still available!
FR Skates continues Seba legacy of quality, wide availability of parts and innovation. Sebastien and his pals have hands full of work and try to push the sport in to new directions with FR Skates. It’s worth to mention an innovative concept of 90-72-72-90 freestyle slalom frames or that they’ve delivered a wide range of UFS based freeskating frames. The brand even makes super light and extra stiff full carbon frames – of course, it’s not the first company to make frames out of this material, but the first to use the technology to make frames for cone slalom.
FR Skates brand gains momentum with every new product and is on the way to eclipse achievements of its precursor, Seba. They truly have something for every freeskating or freestyle slalom enthusiast – be it solid entry level skates for newcomers, models for those who demand a lot from the equipment, people who like unconventional hardware and those who prefer sticking with classic setups.
