About manufacturer
Razors is one of the most important aggressive skating company in history. It is mostly known as a company from sunny California, however, its roots are in Europe, Germany. The company was founded by Andy Wegner, who started a windsurfing goods distribution business in 1982. Soon he started to make various parts and equipment for this sport, under Sunshine brand. This company exists to this day and handles distribution of Razors and Remz skates as well as Jug liners and Ground Control frames. The first time Andy has seen the inline skates was back in 1989 during a business visit in San Diego.
Andy has soon realised that most of skating boots were made in Europe, his home turf. Furthermore, frames were available on open market in Taiwan. He already had business relationship with wheel maker, Kryptonics. He started working on a new project and several months later he showed the world his first skate design at ISPO tradeshows in Munich. It is worth to note that Sunshine was the first company ever to display a skate there. As the inline skate market has grown rapidly and soon started to be crowded, Andy decided to go for niche where he had the best chance of success – aggressive skating. He soon released his first aggressive skate, the Razors Impact. But what about the sunny California? Well, he moved with his business there in 1999, when Razors was already one of the most important brands in the industry.
The history of Razors is tied to their riders. They made a huge impact on product development – the skates were created to fit their needs best. For example, an unique SL boot concept (soulframe being a replaceable bottom of the boot) has been invented becasue skaters wanted the best possible feedback on grinds. During all these years, Razors have never released a skate one can consider bad. Every single model, from earliest Cults to most recent Shifts, are super solid skates and have sworn fans.
