Product details
The Rollerblade Maxxum Edge are made for those who seek high end fitness skates. But not just regular fitness skates – ones that will withstand whatever you throw at them, intense workout schedule and rigour, a type of skating that pushes both user and equipment to their limits, no matter the environment: road, track or urban. In fact, Maxxum Edge are much closer to concept of “freeskates on steroids” when it comes to durability, fit, support and rigidity, than to your regular fitness models.
It doesn’t come as surprise when you consider that these have the very same shell which Rollerblade Twister Edge uses. This is where similarities end, though – Maxxum Edge have different cuffs, liners, buckles and frames.
The boot itself is stiffer and gives much better ankle support than old Rollerblade Maxxum, which shared the boot with original Twisters (ones with shell full of holes!). Cuff has been shaped to give anatomically correct fit. Furthermore, Rollerblade equipped the boot with metal plates embedded in frame mounting points. As a result, the connection is super solid and give you much better energy transfer. This effect is amplified by Anti Torsion Box, which is a hole underneath central part of the foot, framed with 3D structure, giving the whole shell more rigidity. The shell also accommodates a shock absorber under the heel, giving a bit of relief for your joints by reducing the amount of vibration they are exposed to.
Inside the shell resides a Premium liner, made from top-tier materials. It has been designed to lock the heel in place and provide high level of comfort. The shape of foams in new version has been tweaked to provide a better fit out of the box. The new Comfort Flex tongue makes skating more comfortable with its cushioned wings and reinforced median bar to wrap around the shin better for improved flex and control while maintaining its shape consistently. A slimmer cuff than in case of Twister Edge still provides excellent support, but come with bigger V-cut for a better range of ankle movement.
Liner comes with a good insole with arch support. Boot closure is made of lacing and two strong buckles, made for Maxxum Edge skates from scratch. We can say without a shadow of doubt that lower buckle is the most solid one ever made for skates – the heel lock it gives is exceptional. The buckle on cuff is also well-made and strong, providing excellent support when locked.
The 3WD version of the skate comes with high quality, rigid, 295 mm long frame. It is much closer to speedskating frames than freeskating ones – in fact, it is used on some of Rollerblade’s racing skates and is one of the best models in company’s catalogue, surpassed only by Fly Pro 3x125. The wheels are also top shelf – Hydrogens, made in USA, are one of the best speedskating wheels in the world. The ILQ-9 Classic Plus made by world-famous Twincam company give smooth roll and complete this premium setup.
To sum it up: if you are looking for an exceptional setup for intense fitness workouts and long distance skating, the Maxxum Edge 3WD are for you. These are built like tanks, fast as F1 racing cars and made with best quality parts and materials. They are more than just fitness skates – what you are getting are superb kit for demanding training routine, one which will not fail you no matter if you skate on the road or through urban cityscape.
About manufacturer
Rollerblade is one of the most iconic brands in the inline skating world, known for popularizing inline skates in the 1980s and 1990s.
