For many seasons, skates based on a hard and rigid shell have been the most popular choice among all Rollerblade offerings. The most affordable of this type, the RB models, and the top-tier Twister Edge have gained a very wide fan base due to their quality and versatility.
In the 2024 season, Rollerblade is introducing a new model to its urban skating lineup: the Lightning, which perfectly bridges the gap between the RB and Twister Edge models, both technologically and in terms of price.
The main goal in designing the Rollerblade Lightning skates was to create comfortable, versatile skates that are very easy to handle, even for beginners, and ready to skate straight out of the box - while still maintaining the globally recognized quality of Rollerblade skates and high-quality components.
The foundation of the Rollerblade Lightning skates is a new shell construction with a specially designed liner.
The Rollerblade Lightning shell offers excellent support and foot protection, while the ventilation holes ensure proper airflow during skating and keep the skates lightweight. Traditionally, replaceable side sliders will take care of protecting the skate.
The comfort of skating in the Rollerblade Lightning skates is provided by a new liner, specifically designed for this model, which perfectly fits the shapes of the shell and cuff. Made from high-quality materials, the Lightning liner is equipped with the proven PSI (Performance Skate Insole) and an additional Footboard Sizer insole, which reduces free space and decreases the skate size for people with smaller and narrower feet. Additionally, at the top part of the Lightning liner, there are loops for laces that improve fit and support for our foot in the skate. A shock absorber placed under the heel dampens vibrations caused by skating on uneven surfaces and during jumps.
The Rollerblade Lightning skates feature quick and easy fastening thanks to new buckles with a memory mechanism.
All Rollerblade Lightning models are equipped with new memory buckles (Memory Buckles), which greatly facilitate quick donning and fastening of the skates. After the first proper closing of all buckles (top and 45-degree buckles), they remember their positions, making subsequent closing much faster and easier. In addition to the buckles, the Rollerblade Lightning skates include a classic lacing system, with the last eyelets positioned so that the lace can also be threaded through loops in the liner.
The Rollerblade Lightning skate's lightweight and rigid frame is made from extruded aluminum of varying lengths.
Each model of the Rollerblade Lightning skates on the market is equipped with the new Lightning frame, which is made from high-quality extruded aluminum (Extruded Alu). This makes the frame very stiff, durable, and lightweight, ensuring proper energy transfer and durability during trick performance and fast, dynamic skating. The frame features an adjustable position relative to the boot (lateral), and the wheels are mounted with reliable and durable Racing Axles screws.
Depending on the model and the size of the wheels, the Rollerblade Lightning skates feature the following frame lengths:
- 4x80mm wheels: 243mm/9.6'' frame (sizes 35-44) and 255mm/10'' frame (sizes 44.5-48.5)
- 4x90mm wheels: 274mm/10.7'' frame (sizes 35-40) and 280mm/11'' frame (sizes 40.5-48.5)
- 3x110mm wheels: 248mm/9.7'' frame (sizes 35-42.5), 255mm/10'' frame (sizes 43-46), and 270mm/10.6'' frame (sizes 47-48.5)
Each version of the Rollerblade Lightning skates, depending on the size, has a perfectly matched proportion of frame length to boot size, thereby ensuring the right balance and stability during skating.

The base versions of the Rollerblade Lightning skates are equipped with classic 80mm diameter Rollerblade wheels with a hardness of 85a, and the well-known Rollerblade SG 7 bearings from the RB 80 models. This is the perfect balance between affordable price and quality, allowing for dynamic skating even on very uneven surfaces and safe execution of tricks such as jumps or slides without worrying about damaging the wheels.
Higher models of the Rollerblade Lightning skates feature the best combo that Rollerblade has to offer for urban skating. The super fast and abrasion-resistant Hydrogen SE wheels and Rollerblade SG 9 bearings are a combination that guarantees high speed, grip, and durability in all conditions!
