Product details
Anyone who skated aggressively before 2000 will remember the Roces 5th Element well. The revolutionary Roces skate was a top model for aggressive skating, introducing a number of new features. The popularity of Roces products has grown significantly in recent years - the brand responds to the requests of the aggressive scene community and returns in great style with an improved version of the Roces 5th Element.
Technically, the skates have been improved in every aspect. In the original version, the Roces 5th Element skates were distinguished by a one-piece soulframe - i.e. a combination of a frame and a soulplate into one piece. At a time when the UFS standard was not yet available, this solution worked, but now the needs have changed a bit. As a result, the current version of the soulplate is a well-known and proven solution from popular Valo skates. Super durable, two-piece Roces soulplate with a huge grind surface - by far the most characteristic feature of Roces 5th Elementskates.
The other distinctive feature of the Roces 5th Element model is the construction of the shell itself. The shell is made of two different PU materials. The lower part is very stiff and gives these skates the stability and support that an aggressive skater needs. The upper part, which houses the eyelets for the laces, is made of a softer blend for optimal fit around the foot without creating pressure points. This combination gives the skates a lot of flexibility.
The liner has also been adapted to today's standards. Roces Comfort Liner is equipped with Memory Foam and Dual Shockabsorber for optimal comfort and support. Well-placed heel padding fully secures our foot. The neoprene toes will help to perfectly adjust the liner length with the shell.
Complete with Roces frames - universal aggressive frames, which, despite the "stock" tag, stand out from the competition. The convex shape of the sidewalls for faster grinds, additional bridges between the wheels for increased stiffness or the versatile groove that allows both flat and anti-rocker setups. Perfectly secured hardware that you can safely rely on and a symmetrical design to prolong frame's life. Roces frames are basically a premium product and everything indicates that in the future we can expect a version sold separately as a full-fledged piece, which is certainly an additional recommendation.
Roces 5th Element comes with Anti-rocker setting. Large outer 60 mm wheels with a high 93a hardness. Designed for street skating, greatly facilitating grinds thanks to 42mm grind wheels (non-bearing ones).Wide and spacious shell of Roces 5th Element skates may cause some problems with the selection of the right size - remembering that the skates are produced only in three shell sizes, we recommend choosing a size at least 1x smaller than our shoes, additionally following the given Mondo Point in the size chart:
- Size 1 - marked by the manufacturer as EU 39-40, in real-life it is 250-255 mm long
- Size 2 - marked by the manufacturer as EU 41-42, in real-life length it is 260-270 mm long
- Size 3 - marked by the manufacturer as EU 43-44, in real-life length it is 280-285 mm long
An unique shell, great flex and unnatural big soulplate can make all grinds much easier – a feature that beginners as well as advanced skaters will surely appreciate!
About manufacturer
Roces company was founded in year 1952 in small Italian city Montebellunar, 50 km from Venice. The brand initially made leather trekking and skiing boots, in time adopting new technologies and possibilities brought by plastic revolution. In year 1978, Roces has made world’s first ice skates with plastic moulded boot. Several years later, Vasco Casavin, already a second generation of company’s owners, meet Scott Olson, a founder of Rollerblade at Los Angeles trade shows. They’ve struck a deal and so begins Roces journey with inline skating – initially limited to making skates for Rollerblade.
The first Roces boot mold is named PRO – the very same shell as the now legendary M12 boot, which is still made today. After a decade of cooperation, two brands split ways and Roces releases their very own skates range in 1994 – showcasing them to general public on trade shows in LA, once again. This was a major surprise for the industry – Rollerblade was already a very strong and well known brand, but few were aware that Roces were behind making their skates.
Roces had perfect timing with the reveal, seeing that inline skating popularity has exploded in mid 90’s. In year 1996, Roces has released the very first „true” aggressive skates, built from the ground up for this demanding style, with low and reinforced frame – namely, the Majestic 12. The brand’s history is closely tied with aggressive skating from that point. It is worth to note that even when Roces had joined forces with the inline skating legend, Jon Julio, to create Valo brand, which lasted for about a decade, the M12 skate never went out of production.
Other styles were as much influenced by Roces as aggressive. They were the first brand to offer a wide range of inline hockey skates and in year 1995 they have released what now can be called an ancestor of freeskates – Roces Sydney, coming with supportive hardboot, strong aluminium frame, rockering option and 76mm wheels. Back then, Roces already had carbon speedskating boots in their catalogue. In year 1997, Big Cat hit the market – one of the first off-road skates and precursor of modern roller skis. In the same year, Mexico City 5 was released for downhill enthusiasts – the very first harboot skate to come with 5 wheeled frame, stock.
During 60 years of their history, Roces has been setting the trends and actively supported skating scene. They are one of foundations of our favourite sport and their influence cannot be overestimated. Roces skates are result of years worth of development, knowledge and experience.
