Product details
The Chaya brand is (relatively) a newcomer to rollerskate market but people behind it pack plenty of experience. It is a division of German company Powerslide, which has acquired multiple rollerskating talent from all over the world – this includes people who skate park and roller derby players. From the very beginning, the project is overseen by Kenneth Dedeu – a Powerslide’s creative director, photographer, designer, talented inline skater and rollerskater (he does have a cool nickname: Ragnaroll). As you can see, the foundations are solid (not just nickname) and coupled with company’s dedication to deliver the best possible equipment, it has resulted in really solid line of rollerskates.
One of the people strongly attached to the brand is spanish roller superstar Barbara Luciana – a very original and talented rider bursting with positive attitude and personality. She has helped Chaya in process of designing Kismet Barbiepatin – rollerskates intended for tricks and skatepark ride. The goal was to put together a superb setup coming with everything you need to start shredding, but without a super high pricetag. In our humble opinion – Barbie and product development team have absolutely nailed it.
The skates have mid cut, medium stiffness boot for a better range of movement in ankle area while still providing enough support on tricks. The upper wraps around the foot tightly, holding the heel in place and giving excellent level of support. Surface is covered with canvas and additional leather strap at the bottom serves a protective role, making the boot more durable. The inner padding is anatomically shaped and highly comfortable.
The Shari plate is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic material (GFRP), making it durable, rigid, low weigth and inexpensive. It comes with assymetric grindblock for easy sliding on rails and copings. Furthermore, the plate is attached to the boot using standard 6 screws, but it is also compatible with DCM standard (two point dual center mounting), so it is possible to put it on any boot using that one as well. In addition, it comes with two innovations introduced by Chaya. First one is anatomically offset toe stopper – placed closer to a big toe, giving you much more natural feeling on push and better balance on tricks. It is actually puzzling, how no one came up with it earlier, considering that rollerskates exist for over 150 years! The second upgrade over typical rollerskates is Power Toe System – the front part of the plate, below the toes, is slightly curved upwards, giving you better energy transfer and control.
105 mm wide trucks are made out of casted aluminum and can withstand a lot of abuse. Because of the more trick oriented character, these rollerskates use harder 92A hardness cushions. Stopper is wide for better stability on stalls. The Oto Paseo 59 mm diameter wheels of 92A hardness are ready to drop in to a bowl. The Wicked ABEC 7 bearings ensure smooth roll.
Kismet Barbiepatin rollerskates look great and have everything you need to start shredding at attractive price. Barbie has chosen them for a reason, and we trust judgement of hers – rollerskating superstar. Want to conquer skateparks and streets in style? These skates are best to start on!
About manufacturer
Chaya is nothing else than rollerskating division of renown inline skates manufacturer, Powerslide. It was created in collaboration with skaters from all over the world. From the very beginning of the project, it is overseen by Powerslide’s creative director, Kenneth Dedeu – he is not only a very talented designer and photographer, but also amazing skater and yes – rollerskater too (under nickname “Ragnaroll”). He wanted to forge Chaya in to very best rollerskating company out there and rounded up other amazing riders, too. Good examples are Barbara “Barbie” Luciana, the queen of Barcelona’s rollerskating scene (great vert and street skater too) and Kid Block, a talented roller derby player from Tiger Bay Brawlers team in Cardiff. A solid team provided invaluable feedback which helped creating innovative and high quality products.
Furthermore, all of that high end technology Powerslide is known for has found its way in to Chaya rollerskates. Carbon fibre shells, advanced composite materials, Recall foams, heat mouldable boots are just few examples. Street rollerskates are equipped with innovative, asymmetrical brindblock, the toe stopper placement in many models is offset for better power transfer on push, front of the baseplates is slightly curved upwards for better control – these are ideas that Chaya introduced to enhance rollerskating experience. Furthermore, no matter what is your style: dance, cruising, street and vert, roller derby – the brand have something for you in store!
