Product details
At the helm of the Dead Wheels brand is none other than Adam Johnson (KFC series) and Alex Broskow, unanimously regarded as the best aggressive skater in the world. So it's no surprise that the support of the skate community for this company is reaching an all-time high! Tired of the low availability of slightly smaller wheels for aggressive skating, they decided to create a series of their own products to meet all current demands.
Exclusively manufactured in the USA, Dead Wheels feature proven quality urethane and a unique semi-round shape for optimum grip and smooth turns. The wheel's core is a mix of nylon and fibreglass, and its unique shape requires the use of lighter spacers without a 'collar'.
According to Dead Wheels' designers, the 58 mm size is the optimum size for both street and skate park use. A versatile size whose small diameter ensures a low centre of gravity and therefore offering much easier grinds. At the same time, 58 mm is big enough to help with stability when skating over any bumps. The slightly rounded profile means an increased contact area with a surface, which also translates into improved durability.
The 95a mark indicates a very high hardness of the wheel. Harder wheels are mainly intended for flat setups, where the user prefers to sacrifice grip for less friction when grinding. A high hardness means a noticeably longer wheel life, but this also makes it slightly harder to skate on smooth skate park surfaces.
The Dead Wheels 58 mm 95a model is therefore an excellent choice as a middle wheel for flat setup frame. In combination with the 88a and 92a hardness models (available in the same colours and identical shape), they allow a lot of freedom in creating our dream setup according to individual needs.
About manufacturer
Inline skating wheels are by far the most frequently replaced component of our skate gear. The current market is obviously flooded with different manufacturers engaged in the production of specialized wheels for various purposes, but as far as the aggressive inline skating scene is considered, one of the most respected brands is Dead Wheels.
The project is the result of a collaboration between well-known film maker Adam Johnson and a blade goat Alex Broskow. Adam made his mark on the scene with the iconic KFC video series, which undeniably helped spur Alex Broskow's fruitful career. Over the years, both have been heavily involved in a number of other projects (Street Artist, Vibralux), but in retrospect it is Dead Wheels that can be considered as their greatest success.
The reason for the brand's immense popularity lies in its unique business model and products that possess key features, seamlessly fitting in with current hardware and trick trends. Dead Wheels supports a permanent pro team featuring top skaters like David Sizemore, Marius Gaile, Soichiro Kanashima, Gavin Drumm, Dom Bruce and John Bolino, but it is the brand's collaborations that truly set it apart. These skilfully curated projects, such as limited edition Too Easy, Bacemint and 5th Floor wheels, as well as the highly popular reissue of Randy Spizer's vibrant pro models from the late 90s, have been warmly embraced by the inline skating community.
Without a doubt, Dead Wheels are top-of-the-line products. They have been put to the test by the world's most talented aggressive skaters and remain one of the few brands still manufacturing their products in the USA. The urethane compound is tried and true, the cores are solid, and what really sets them apart is the distinctive shape that's available in the most sought-after sizes: 56 mm, 58 mm, and the increasingly popular 80 mm diameter. The brand is always refining the offer, ensuring they are tailored to the current needs of their customers while their superb marketing is demonstrated through sick promotional videos, expertly shot by Adam Johnson.
