Product details
Every skater should make sure their head is well protected. It is worth to reach out for proven solutions – like K2 Varsity MIPS helmet, offering comprehensive protection while maintaining optimum comfort and an easy fit.
K2 Varsity Mips helmet — for whom?
K2 Varsity Mips helmet is a perfect choice for people looking for a full head protection. It provides adequate level of safety no matter if you skate purely for recreation or are into more adrenaline-pumping styles like aggressive and freeskating. It can be used for other urban sports, too!
Explaning MIPS techonology
MIPS, or Multi-directional Impact Protection System, is an innovative safety technology used in K2 helmets and other brands of helmets, primarily for skating and skiing. This technology addresses how helmets protect against rotational motion, a common component in many impacts.
- Concept of MIPS: The central concept of MIPS technology is to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts. When a helmet with MIPS is subjected to an angled impact, the low friction layer inside allows the helmet to slide relative to the head.
- Design and Structure: MIPS technology involves a slip-plane system that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the brain's own protection system. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet and absorb and redirect energies and forces that would otherwise be transmitted to the brain.
- Impact Absorption: In an impact, the MIPS layer allows for a small amount of movement in all directions. This movement absorbs some energy generated in a crash, particularly the rotational forces, which are thought to be a significant factor in concussions and brain injuries.
- Integration in Helmets: The MIPS technology is integrated into the helmet design without compromising comfort and fit. It's found between the padding and the EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam that absorbs the force of an impact.
- Effectiveness: Studies have shown that helmets equipped with MIPS technology can significantly reduce the force transmitted to the brain in certain types of impacts, potentially lowering the risk of brain injury.
K2 Varsity Mips helmet — worth to know!
Three available sizes and additional adjustment - Three separate shell sizes make it easier to fit the helmet and ensures a better fit. In addition, an internal adjustment system adjusts the size to fit the shape and circumference of your head. The adjustment is made by means of a knob located in the lower part at the back of the helmet. The adjustment allows you to quickly and comfortably fit the helmet to the shape of your head offering you greater comfort.
Contrary to popular opinion, helmet should not be indestructible. It should crack during excessively hard impacts — polystyrene foam should compress, absorbing as much energy as possible. When outer shell cracks, it disperses more energy, not allowing it to transfer to your head! Remember that helmet must be replaced after an accident, as already damaged one (even if structural damage is not visible) does not guarantee adequate level of protection.
About manufacturer
K2 Skates is an inline skating division of winter sports and outdoor powerhouse, K2. Americans have never hesitated from forging their own path and have shaken up the industry when they have entered the market back in 1993. K2 is the company that invented the softboot concept, a lightweight, breathable and comfortable boot design attached to and supported by relatively minimalist outer skeleton. The fact that, 30 years later, all major skate manufacturers make their recreational and fitness skates using the same template, speaks for itself. K2 did something right here.
The core offering of the company remains unchanged, though: they are, and always have been, lightweight and comfortable skates. When you put K2 Skates on, they feel like a good pair of running shoes. This is what makes them so popular among fitness-oriented and casual audiences who skate purely for fun. It doesn’t mean that by choosing K2 Skates we sacrifice quality – the company still goes head to head with other industry’s giants in that area.
