Product details
Bauer RH X-LP Yth are hockey skates for children, intended as introduction into this dynamic sport. Thanks to smart cost-cutting and clever design choices, it is definitely one of the highlights in its category.
Boot is based around composite shell, which provides more than enough support considering how little (relatively!) children tend to weight. It is adjustable in four sizes: EU35-EU38.5. Thanks to it, skates can last several seasons! The outer skin is made out of durable nylon material, while lining is made of microfiber one. Just like skates for grown-ups, these come with felt tongue, which absorbs moisture and provides comfort.
Frame used in this model is made out of resilient composite material, which is more forgiving when it comes to errors in skating technique than aluminum found in skates for older players. Interestingly, Bauer has not opted for a popular “unibody” solution, often found in skates for children, where part of the boot and frame are one piece. Instead, these two elements are riveted together, just like in models for grown-ups. Thanks to it, the frame can be made from a stiffer material, while shell uses softer one to maintain a necessary level of elasticity – no need for compromise here.
As this model is geared towards older children, the frame fits four wheels, just like in skates for adults. This provides better stability and grip than three wheel configuration used in version for younger kids, and results in more dynamic play. Brake is included, but can be easily detached if needed. Skates come with Hi-Lo configuration: two front wheels are smaller than the rear ones, meaning that center of balance is lowered and skate is tilted forward, creating a more aggressive, dynamic stance.
To sum it up, it is a hockey skate worth recommending if you want to get a child into exciting world of roller hockey. However, as these are solid, supportive skates, they can be also used simply to have fun rolling around, too!
About manufacturer
Bauer is a leader of hockey ice skates as well as hockey inline skates. It can be said that after acquisition of Mission brand back in 2008, the only contender left to steal this title from Bauer is CCM company. The cake is clearly split between these two.
After Bauer have bought Mission, one of their biggest rivals, they have ran both brands in parallel for a while, but eventually axed Mission ice skates. But when it comes to inline hockey skates, it is a whole another story. In contrast to Bauer skates, which can be described as ice hockey boots with frames and wheels, Mission has always followed a different approach – their inline skates are designed to be more breathable and provide more comfort for off-ice play.
The brands is still managed with this principle in mind. If you imagine that it must be a lower end, budget alternative to Bauer – you are wrong! When it comes to quality, both are on the same, high level. Both are overlooked by some best in industry engineers, use same tech and materials. What is the difference? As already mentioned – the boots have more breathable materials and come with vent holes to increase comfort. This is even expressed by their name: „Inhaler”. They are also made slightly different in terms of fit and support compared to Bauer skates, allowing customers to choose from a wider range of skates to better suit their needs. In addition, Mission skates have more stylized, flashy looks.
When it comes to quality, Mission is still Bauer. The company delivers best hockey skates made with most advanced technologies used not only in this sport, but also in inline skates in general. Their technology is so ahead that only in recent years the gap has started to shrink, thanks to advancements in freestyle, speed and aggressive skates.
