Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 inline skates
If you are looking for a solid pair of skates to start on, but without a premium pricetag, look no further – Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 have you covered. Aimed at customers with lower budgets or those who do not need super advanced features, while at the same time expecting a good quality of the skates. In a sense, Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 models are successors to entry-level Bronx and Bronx II urban skates.
These are as basic as you can imagine when it comes to design, some may even say – inelegant. The closest thing these can be compared to are mid 90s skates like Bauer FX3. However, cutting the cost where it has the least impact on skating experience has paid off and in our humble opinion, these are one of the best hardboot skates within their price range. Without a shadow of doubt, they’ll last you far longer than alternatives at this pricepoint.
Features of Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 inline skates
- The outer shell and cuff - rigid and provides excellent ankle support, plus it’s really durable. This is because its composite material with addition of glass fibres (GFRP) is the same as one used in more expensive Powerslide skates (both freeskates and aggressive ones).
- The shell have high lacing, similar to hockey skates or before mentioned 90’s style boots and does good job of keeping your feet secured.
- The cuff is equipped with plastic buckle, classic style with lever and receiver.
- 45 degree velcro to eliminate heel lift.
- MyFit Basic model - the simplest one from the range, but still very comfortable and adequately thick. It’s not a secret that cheap hardboots most often come with liners that are far from perfect – thin, made with low quality foams that compress fast, resulting in loose and uncomfortable skates after several weeks of use. With Zoom, you don’t have to worry about these issues. You won’t find a hardboot skate with better liner at this price-point!
- The frame is embossed out of thick aluminium sheet – a technology which Powerslide themselves have been using with success in their skates (like popular Imperial Supercruiser line) for years now. In similar manner to skates made during the 90s, the frame is riveted to the boot, meaning that you cannot move or replace it. A welcome side effect of this frame mounting is lowered centre of gravity, making skates easier to handle for beginners.
- The frame measures 243 mm, which is the shortest wheelbase for four times 80 mm setup. The skates are very agile and the setup performs well in urban environment. Stock 80mm 82A wheels are a good option to start on for beginners.
Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 - worth knowing!
It’s worth to note that Zoom are the widest hardboots out of all skates made by Powerslide. So, if you’ve heard that Powerslide is making narrow skates in the past and worry about your ankles – it’s still worth to give Zoom skates a chance.
Being honest here, the “One” Zooms cannot really compete with more expensive models in terms of features, but you cannot deny them their own appeal. Powerslide has focused their efforts on offering a solid boot with high level of comfort, making skating in these a joy. These skates may be simplistic, but do their job nicely and you don’t have to drop a significant amount of money on them.
We recommend them to anyone who is looking for a pair of skates to replace their old rec ones with something more solid and supportive. They will serve well when learning new things on skates too – a rigid, supportive boot will be a great help in this process.
Most skates in this price bracket, especially softboots, are not really suitable for people over 90 kg and will bend in ankle area like crazy. Powerslide One Zoom Black 80 are the remedy for these problems – solid, supportive boots and durable frame will do the job.
About manufacturer
Powerslide is one of industry’s leaders even though it is relatively young company – it has been founded in year 1994. The Germany based brand has entered the market at height of inline skating’s popularity, at the time when market was flooded with low quality skates which could be described as toys rather than sport equipment. From the very beginning, Powerslide had one goal: to break the perception of inline skating being a leisure activity for kids and to promote it as a sport for everyone. That’s not a surprise considering that company’s owner, Matthias Knoll, is a skater himself. As speedskating contender, he breathes this sport and his love for it has been fuelling Powerslide for over 25 years.
If we were to describe Powerslide in three words, these would be: quality, variety and innovation. From the very beginning of company’s existence, Germans have challenged industry’s giants and competed with them in field of quality. Nowadays they are in lead of the pack when it comes to technology: heatmoldable liners and boots, compressed carbon shells, revolutionary Trinity mounting – these things are relatively fresh and competition is yet to respond. Looking back, Powerslide was the first company to introduce carbon freestyle skate with integrated padding. They were the first company to introduce carbon based aggressive skate. 125mm wheels were introduced to speedskating thanks to them. The introduction of Kizer Advance frame and then Level 2 made a big impact and lead to rapid evolution of aggressive flat frames. Germans were the first company to make triskates a significant part of their offering, starting a new trend. Nowadays, Powerslide are the only company that makes real off-road skates (not to be confused with off-road rollerskis).
This pursuit of change and improvement is unique – no other company in this industry is having a boss willing to take even the craziest of ideas and concepts to production stage. Powerslide also have, without a shadow of doubt, the richest catalogue of products among all skating companies; covering even the most niche equipment made for freestyle slalom, downhill and inline alpine. They have full range of accessories and parts: helmets, protection pads, wheels, bearings, frames and so on. The company is also making rollerskates, providing recreational, roller derby and skatepark models and equipment. It can be safely said that if Powerslide is not making something skating related, chances of other companies having it in their offer are slim to none.
Powerslide have an impressive brand portfolio: MyFit liners, Wicked bearings, Reign hockey skates, USD aggressive skates, Kizer frames, Undercover wheels, Matter wheels, Gawds boots, wheels and softgoods, Prime wheels, Juice rollerskates wheels, Chaya rollerskates, Ennui protection and many others.
What makes Powerslide special are company’s people and supporters who create a community around it. Germans support and cooperate with skaters all around the globe. International Powerslide Team is composed of names every inline skating fan should be familiar with and believe us - there are far too many to list them here.
