Product details
Rollerblade are good at patience – they do not jump hastily in to conclusions and do not release half-baked products. Therefore, they are not as dynamic as other companies when it comes to product development but know this – when the lock on certain idea and decide on making it reality, the result is almost guaranteed to be amazing.
New Apex skates are proof that the company that started it all is still relevant today and can release a product that is nuking competition from the orbit.
What are Apex skates? They are urban skates for children. Some may say that it is not such a big deal, as other companies had it for years. Thing is – these are adjustable, and good adjustable freeskate is a rare thing. Furthermore, a premium one, which is on par with skates for adults when it comes to design and quality is almost unheard of.
Rollerblade stick to their guns and made sure that Apex are fine-tuned for urban skating, just like their grown-up models. Sorry, freestyle slalom fans! The design is a true eye-catcher – if it gives you flashbacks of Twister Edge, this observation is spot on. Futuristic, sharp lines make Apex standing out from the crowd and make them the best looking kids’ skates on the market at the moment.
Rollerblade cut no corners when it comes to quality. The polymer used to make the shell is rigid, providing an excellent ankle support and protection of the foot. Furthermore, it just looks superb thanks to semi-matte surface finish. The shell is adjustable in range of four sizes and there are three variants to choose from: EU29-32, EU33-36 and EU37-40.5. Thus, Apex are skates suitable for both younger and older kids. Inside the shell resides a Premium liner, made out of best materials Rollerblade can offer. Strong buckles of the same type as used in skates for adults work excellent and hold the foot in place firmly. As expected from freeskates, these come with generous shock-absorber. There’s even a replaceable side protector!
The frame is worthy of the boot. Extruded and given final touches via CNC, this piece of aluminium is rigid, durable and responsive. Rollerblade always had attention to detail and it shows – every skate size range comes with different frame length: 207 mm, 219 mm or 231 mm to ensure best balance between agility, ease of control, stability and speed. Of course, longer frames can fit bigger wheels. Thus, the shortest one takes 4x68, the next one 4x72 and longest – 4x76.
Smaller wheels mean lower centre of balance, which makes skates easier to handle for younger children. All wheel sizes have 80A hardness – great choice considering kids’ relatively low weight. They roll smoothly and provide high level of comfort thanks to great vibration dampening properties. Wheels have a strong core, so it is safe to jump on them. The SG7 bearings give these skates a great roll and make them fast. The brake is included in the box, for those who rather use it.
A lot of brands tried to achieve what Rollerblade delivered here. Apex are superb, adjustable urban skates that feel like they are shrunk down model for adults. Stylish, well made and top quality – we could praise them all day.
Please note: skates come with a brake in the box - it requires installation (pretty simple) if you want to use it.
About manufacturer
Rollerblade is one of the most iconic brands in the inline skating world, known for popularizing inline skates in the 1980s and 1990s. The brand was founded in 1980 by two hockey-playing brothers, Scott and Brennan Olson, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They initially created inline skates as a way to train for ice hockey during the off-season. Their design featured a line of wheels in a single frame, allowing for smoother movement and greater maneuverability. As Rollerblade's popularity grew, it sparked a global inline skating boom in the 1990s, becoming synonymous with the sport itself.
Throughout the years, Rollerblade has been at the forefront of inline skating innovation. In the 1990s, the brand introduced various advancements, such as the brake system for safer stopping, adjustable frames, and high-performance wheels.
