Product Description

Rollerblade are good at patience – they do not jump hastily in to conclusions and do not release half-baked products. Therefore, they are not as dynamic as other companies when it comes to product development but know this – when the lock on certain idea and decide on making it reality, the result is almost guaranteed to be amazing.

New Apex skates are proof that the company that started it all is still relevant today and can release a product that is nuking competition from the orbit.

What are Apex skates? They are urban skates for children. Some may say that it is not such a big deal, as other companies had it for years. Thing is – these are adjustable, and good adjustable freeskate is a rare thing. Furthermore, a premium one, which is on par with skates for adults when it comes to design and quality is almost unheard of.

Rollerblade stick to their guns and made sure that Apex are fine-tuned for urban skating, just like their grown-up models. Sorry, freestyle slalom fans! The design is a true eye-catcher – if it gives you flashbacks of Twister Edge, this observation is spot on. Futuristic, sharp lines make Apex standing out from the crowd and make them the best looking kids’ skates on the market at the moment.

Rollerblade cut no corners when it comes to quality. The polymer used to make the shell is rigid, providing an excellent ankle support and protection of the foot. Furthermore, it just looks superb thanks to semi-matte surface finish. The shell is adjustable in range of four sizes and there are three variants to choose from: EU29-32, EU33-36 and EU37-40.5. Thus, Apex are skates suitable for both younger and older kids. Inside the shell resides a Premium liner, made out of best materials Rollerblade can offer. Strong buckles of the same type as used in skates for adults work excellent and hold the foot in place firmly. As expected from freeskates, these come with generous shock-absorber. There’s even a replaceable side protector!

The frame is worthy of the boot. Extruded and given final touches via CNC, this piece of aluminium is rigid, durable and responsive. Rollerblade always had attention to detail and it shows.

With a warm response from inline skating community, Apex quickly gained a reputation of being one of the best adjustable freeskates on the market. No surprise that Rollerblade have followed up with a new version of the skate: 3WD model.

This version of the skate comes with triskating setup by default, but thanks to hybrid frames, it can be turned into four wheeled skate with ease. Just like in other versions, the frame length and maximum wheel size is adjusted to boot size. Thus, there are three versions:

-shortest, coming with 3x76 mm wheel setup and allowing for 4x68

-medium, coming with 3x80 mm wheel setup and allowing for 4x72 mm

-longest, coming with 3x84 mm wheel setup and allowing for 4x76 mm

It is worth to note that 3WD version is the only one coming with hybrid frames. If you'll go for regular, 4 wheel model, there won't be a possibility to use triskating setup with it.

A lot of brands tried to achieve what Rollerblade delivered here. Apex are superb, adjustable urban skates that feel like they are shrunk down model for adults. Stylish, well made and top quality – we could praise them all day.

About manufacturer

Other products of this producer Rollerblade

Rollerblade are industry’s veterans and one of the most important brands in inline skating history. The company was founded in year 1982 by Brennan Olson and Scott Olson, in Minnesota. Since then, Rollerblade underwent several acquisitions and finally became a part of Tecnica Group, a corporation which gathers several well-known and highly valued sport brands under its umbrella.

Contrary to popular belief, Rollerblade was not the first company to mass-manufacture inline skates. However, they were the first company to sell them worldwide and invest heavily in promotion of the rising sport. A testament of their success is the fact that we now use “rollerblading”, a word derived from company’s name, as a synonym to inline skating. Inline skates themselves are often called “rollerblades” or in shortened form, “blades”.

In this day and age, Rollerblade stands for quality. They are not the most innovative of the brands, their catalogue is not as expansive as some others, but without a shadow of doubt – a product with Rollerblade logo on it, is a quality one - from the simplest recreational skates to high end speedskating boots. Company’s approach can be described as steady evolution rather than revolution – this may not appeal to some customers, but guarantees that RB’s skates are always a safe bet. It’s worth remembering that Rollerblade do have resources to give us a surprise from time to time – being in one family with winter sports giants like Nordica, Tecnica and Blizzard Sports gives them an opportunity for technology transfer.

Even though Rollerblade prefers quality over quantity, they offer skates for almost every style: from kid’s skates, through recreational, fitness, speed and aggressive to urban skates. The only area where their catalogue is lacking is freestyle slalom; Rollerblade, to this day, has not created a model dedicated for this type of activity, even though their older urban skate, Twister, was a very popular choice among beginners and intermediate slalom enthusiasts at the beginning of the century.

Rollerblade have always worked with skaters and attracted best of them. There was a time when their aggressive inline skating team was unmatched – the very first pro skate of one of most talented and highest regarded skaters in history, Alexander Broskow, was made by Rollerblade. They were the first company to release a pro-model of an urban skate with Fusion 84 Greg Mirzoyan. It’s worth mentioning names like Ben Brillante, Sven Boekhorst, Robert Guerrero, Vincent Vuvankha and Danny Alridge – all skate or skated for Rollerblade. Moreover, the company is trying to make ambassadors of skating out of people who practice other sports – we can mention a loose cooperation with skiing superstar, Sierra Quitiquit. The company also tries to appeal to skiing audience in particular by their campaign and training program called “Skate to ski”.
