The 909 skates are the flagship model of Themskates - relatively young (started in 2018) but very popular brand operating under the leadership of aggressive skating legend Jon Julio. Themskates is the essence of the aggressive skating world - cultivating a true "skate" lifestyle, gathering the most original and progressive skaters from around the globe, such as Alex Broskow, Danny Beer, Soichiro Kanashima, Gave Drum, Sean Darst or Patrick Ridder just to name a few. Thanks to complete transparency, a lot of emphasis on skilful marketing and the so-called 'street cred' Themskates brand is considered to be the clear market leader.
The 909 model is a natural successor of Them 908 skates - the premiere product of Themskates from 2018, based on Sabotage aggressive skates from the 90s. A characteristic feature of the first 908 models was considerable flex - an open shell with a original lacing system gave a lot of freedom, however, the cuffs at that time did not offer sufficient support. Moreover, the shell itself was quite narrow which limited the potential audience. Themskates reaction was lightning-fast - a collaboration with the most sought-after designer Kyle Sola (the originator of SOLA aluminum frames or the new soulplate in RB Blank), who meticulously studied the entire feedback from the riders and then designed a completely new shell from scratch - the result of which is the Themskates 909 model.
The 2022 version of the 909 model, available in two color versions (black and gray), is the highlight for the brand. For the first time, we get a complete aggressive skate from a 100% independent brand - all parts designed from scratch by Themskates.
It is a slim, ergonomic shell with a slightly raised heel. The 909 model is slightly longer and wider than the original shell of the 908, so if you did not fit into a specific size in the 908, there is a good chance that in the 909 it will be possible. Updated shell material is harder and stronger to provide extra support and longer life of a skate.
The new Them 909 cuffs with the adjustable position option further help in adjusting the skates to your own needs (High position - more support, useful for setups with large wheels or Low position - better flex, typical for aggressive skating). The 2022 version of Themskates cuffs also features unique Themskates buckles with a reduced weight and an engraved logo - a cosmetic, but very stylish accessory.
One of the most frequently mentioned disadvantages of the first Themskates models were the relatively small Soulplate and poor quality hardware, which made it quite difficult to replace. Both of these problems have now been completely eliminated. From now on, all 909 models will be equipped with an improved version of the soulplate 3.0. The width of the soulplate in the heel area has been significantly increased, which will be of great help to beginner skaters and allows for easier cess slides. In addition, the so-called "Bridge Hardware" has been introduced in the soulplate mount, thanks to which we can easily unscrew / replace them if necessary.
Another change is the fourth version (V4) of Them liner. The heel position has been shifted a bit back for greater stiffness. Wider tongue with more padding fills the shell better and provides even more comfort. It comes with additional reinforcement in the cuff area and a neoprene, stretchable toebox - in combination with the new shape of the shell, your toes will not be as squeezed as in the 908 models.
To complete the package, Them 909 skates are offered with Them Street frames - also designed by Kyle Sola. Frames are made of injection-molded nylon filled with glass fiber. Shallow and small groove makes them great great for both flat and anti-rocker setups. Axles have with an asymmetric head - tightening requires only one allen key. The maximum wheel size in the flat setting is 58mm, but thanks to the wheel wells in soulplates, with the anti-rocker setting, we can use sizes up to 60mm in outer positions.
Themskates 58mm wheels of universal 90a hardness can be recommended for any type of surface; good grip on smooth, concrete skateparks and a long life during more rough street skating.

Them Skates is a brand created by aggressive inline skating legend, Jon Julio. He is the mastermind behind the marketing and team management of (now shelved) Valo brand which he ran for Roces. After over 15 years, Valo came to an end and he and Italian brand parted ways. Seeing that he basically lost a job that he dedicated his whole adult life to, Jon was at the crossroads. Led by responsibility towards his family, he almost took post office job. However, it was not meant to be – following his love for skating, he decided to have one last shot at creating a skating company, seeing that the he already has been involved in Themgoods (a softgoods company) and Youth frames projects, which were more of a side-jobs for him. Them Skates were born.
Even though the first product – Them 908 model – was nothing revolutionary: used old Sabotage molds (with a new soulplate, but still), had very basic liner and was available as boot only without an option for complete setup, it sold like a hotcakes. This success is thanks to Jon’s loyal fans and supporters from all over the world, a community that had his back and wanted him in the skating. The popularity of Them Skates allowed Jon to expand rapidly – within a time frame of just one year, he developed his proprietary boot mold in cooperation with Kyle Sola, one of the most prominent industrial designers in skating. The 909, as it is called, is notable for being the first boot mold created and fully owned by a company run solely by aggressive inline skaters. Soon, the company created their own frames. Nowadays, one of the most talented and influential skaters are associated with Them Skates and many more chose to ride their boots for what they represent for aggressive skating community as a whole.
