Sizes of the shells in Freeskate Skates

Choosing the right freeskate inline skates with a hardboot is not an easy task.

The reason why choosing the perfect hardboot skates size for yourself is difficult:

For one shell size, there are two or more sizes of the inner boot (liner).

Choosing the right shell size relative to our foot size is crucial. The ideal solution is to select such a shell size so that the foot in the liner perfectly fills the interior of the shell, leaving no free space and looseness. This way, we will feel our skates much better, the liners will not move and rub during skating, and the weight of the skates and the ratio of the frame length to the length of the boot will ensure great stability.

For example, FR skates in sizes 41 and 42 have two different liners, but the same shell size. In some models, liners with double sizing are used, where size adjustment is done through a stretchable toe area or additional footbeds. All liners in hardboot skates always stretch - sometimes even by a few millimeters. Choosing the right shell size is crucial, especially in cases when choosing between two sizes in two different shells - e.g., between size 42 with a 42 liner and a 42 shell, and size 43 with a 43 liner and a 44 shell.

A larger shell means:

greater weight
longer boot length (more free space)
a different ratio of boot length to rail length (feeling of stability)

If you want to have maximally fitted, yet still comfortable skates, you should start by checking which shell is closest in length to your foot and choose such a skate model whose shell size will provide the least free space in the shell - and thus, the smallest possible shell size.
