Product Description

The Rollerblade Maxxum XT are made for those who seek high end fitness skates. But not just regular fitness skates – ones that will withstand whatever you throw at them, intense workout schedule and rigour, a type of skating that pushes both user and equipment to their limits, no matter the environment: road, track or urban. In fact, Maxxum Edge are much closer to concept of “freeskates on steroids” when it comes to durability, fit, support and rigidity, than to your regular fitness models.

It doesn’t come as surprise when you consider that these have the very same shell which Rollerblade Twister Edge uses. This is where similarities end, though – Maxxum XT have different cuffs, liners, buckles and frames.

The boot itself is stiffer and gives much better ankle support than old Rollerblade Maxxum, which shared the boot with original Twisters (ones with shell full of holes!). Cuff has been shaped to give anatomically correct fit. Furthermore, Rollerblade equipped the boot with metal plates embedded in frame mounting points. As a result, the connection is super solid and give you much better energy transfer. This effect is amplified by Anti Torsion Box, which is a hole underneath central part of the foot, framed with 3D structure, giving the whole shell more rigidity. The shell also accommodates a shock absorber under the heel, giving a bit of relief for your joints by reducing the amount of vibration they are exposed to.

Inside the shell resides a Premium liner, made from top-tier materials. It has been designed to lock the heel in place and provide high level of comfort. The shape of foams in new version has been tweaked to provide a better fit out of the box. The new Comfort Flex tongue makes skating more comfortable with its cushioned wings and reinforced median bar to wrap around the shin better for improved flex and control while maintaining its shape consistently. A slimmer cuff than in case of Twister Edge still provides excellent support, but come with bigger V-cut for a better range of ankle movement.

Liner comes with a good insole with arch support. Boot closure is made of lacing and two strong buckles, made for Maxxum Edge skates from scratch. We can say without a shadow of doubt that lower buckle is the most solid one ever made for skates – the heel lock it gives is exceptional. The buckle on cuff is also well-made and strong, providing excellent support when locked.

Maxxum XT have durable, extruded frame of 280 mm length. It is very rigid – do not let the fact that it uses two piece axles fool you (on a side note – thanks to smart design, only one allen key is required to tighten the axles). The quality of this frame easily dwarfs some frames currently used in freeskates! Thanks to its length and rigidity, as well as strong connection with the boot, the base for push is super solid. Coupled with four 90 mm wheels, it makes these skates very fast. Still, Maxxum XT offer a good level of agility and acceleration, making them practical for urban use.

The stock wheels are Rollerblade Supreme, a medium tier offering dedicated for fitness and urban skating. Their urethane compound have a good level of grip and wears down slowly, making these long lasting. ILQ-7 Plus bearings made by a world-famous Twincam company complete the package and deliver smooth, fast roll.

We recommend these skates not only for people who look for “hardcore workout” gear, but also those who would want a faster, but still low to the ground Twister Edge skates (the 3x110 mm frames found in Twister Edge 3WD are noticeably higher). These skates will perform great in both urban environment and on the road or track. It is worth to note that Maxxum Edge 90 (earlier version, only slight differences to XT) have become favourite skates of skiers who ride for Nordica (Rollerblade and Nordica are both part of the same sports gear corporation, Tecnica Group). Rollerblade has been promoting their skates to skiers for off-season training in “Skate to Ski” initiative, aimed to spread awareness of benefits which skating can give such athletes. Maxxum Edge 90 won their hearts thanks to great fit, excellent level of support and perfect balance between agility, speed and stability.
